Delphi Corporation, a world leader in mobile electronics and transportation components and systems technology, is seeking a commercial and transactional attorney-trainee to help the company’s in-house attorneys manage the company’s legal affairs in the European region as part of a global legal team.

Job Description:  The position, which is based in the company’s Paris Office (Roissy 93), requires a highly motivated business-oriented attorney-trainee ready to work with the company’s in-house attorneys on a wide range of challenging legal matters in the commercial, corporate and transactional areas.  Opportunities are also presented to assist on projects in other areas of the law including litigation, M&A, employment, real estate, and product liability.  The attorney-trainee must have a superior work ethic and enjoys working in an international environment to assist the in-house attorneys advise business clients from around Europe and other parts of the world.

The Legal Team:  The legal team in Paris currently consists of eleven international lawyers and patent professionals, together with a seven-person support team.  The attorney-trainee shall benefit from a professional atmosphere that encourages teamwork and mutual support.  Due to the global nature of Delphi’s business, the attorney-trainee will also have opportunities to work with the company’s in-house attorneys in the United States and the Asia-Pacific and Latin America regions.

Education/Skills:  The successful candidate will have at least a common or civil law post graduate degree. Some experience in a major law firm and/or corporate law department would be a plus but is not required.  Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills, with strong ability to work under pressure on multiple projects in are also required.  Above all, the attorney-trainee must have a positive attitude.

Languages:  Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is required as this is the official working language at Delphi.  A second West or East European language would be a plus but not required.

Experience outside of Home Country Legal System:  Due to the complex, multi-national nature of Delphi’s business, the ability to communicate effectively across cultures and deal comfortably with legal projects in different jurisdictions is also important.  Accordingly, experience living and/or studying outside of one’s home country is desirable.
